I understand that what I do with my bike may be unconventional, but I ride my bike a lot and know what I want and what works for me. These guys at bike barn are only interested in working on high end bikes for the weekend warrriors on their $10,000 road bikes. If you buy a bike from them expect them to only show interest in your needs until they sell you the bike. As soon as you leave the store with your $700 trek they could care less about you or what you want done to your bike. Take your business to CYCLONE CYCLES just up the road!
The best bike shop by far in Houston. Dannye jones was a tremendous help, in regards to assisting me with my track bike
A couple years ago I wanted to change my handlebar setup from flat bars to drop bars and took my bike in thinking they could help me out. Think again, they insisted that it cannot be done and even if it could be done it's the wrong geometry, blah blah blah.... I had it done somewhere else and have loved the setup for the past two years!
Just this past week I called about changing my shifters to Down tube shifters and they said no way it cannot be done right off the bat... talked to two people the last guy said "just bring it in and we can go over your options" but did not sound very optimistic. I called cyclone cycles just up the road and they were happy to take on the job.
I love this Bike Barn. The service dept folks are knowledgeable, patient, nice, and non-judgmental. The service has always been high quality & efficient.
I bought my trek hybrid here 5 years ago and brought it in a few months after because the bike had a pull while riding with no hands, like the frame or something in the bike seemed twisted. They ride the bike and denied any possible thing wrong with it and told me to not ride with no hands. I ride with no hands on every bike I've ever owned and this bike is consistently pulling right to the point where you have to shift your entire body to the left side of bike to ride it straight so I can tell you they were being straight up dishonest with me. The bike is still a good ride and it's not enough for me to do much about it, but I can imagine they treat many other people this way.
I got charged $67 to change two spokes on the rear wheel and the job was not performed correctly. I thought it was a bit expensive but they explained they had to charge me extra labor to take apart the wheel's inner tube and the cassette so I agreed to it (shame on me that I didnt do it myself at home). I picked up the bike and the wheel was aligned and good therefore they did a good job on that part. However, they missed to install back the inner tube valve lock, the valve cover and also a little protector piece from the wheel's quick release. I know it is simple and inexpensive stuff but it really hurt me to know that that I payed extra money for that specific labor and they did not do it right....
Serious case of buyer beware. On two separate occasions at two separate stores (Atascocita and West U.) did this company price their product over the Manufacturer's Suggested Price. On one occasion, I used my phone to look up the price and the sales person corrected and discounted in apology. On the second occasion, I didn't think to look until I got home. You really need to do your research with these people before you purchase. The items were from Specialized (bike shoes) and Trek (girl's mountain bike.)
Other than that, I believe it is a good shop that you will find the bike you look for.
