I went to US embassy in Canada. Belgium embassy in China. I rate the Chinese consulate in Houston five stars, the US embassy in Calgary five stars. But, the Belgium embassy in China one star.

This place is super efficient and incredibly helpful! Got in line at 8am on Monday, they opened at 9am, I was out with my receipt to pick up my passport at 9:07am! I am frequently coming to this place and the Chinese citizens here are extremely kind. Just make sure you follow all of the instructions concerning paperwork BEFORE you go! You are stepping onto Chinese soil when you enter this place, and they are bound by their country’s rules and regulations. If you follow instructions and come at the beginning of the week during the morning, you’ll be in and out within minutes. I actually returned that same day 3 times and was out each time in less than 10 minutes!

I think if this place has their own parking may be I gonna give them 5 stars. The parking fee is $5. If you park next to the block has Starbuck and walgreens, there is gonna has people watching and tow your car because I see it.

Honestly, I think it’s all about expectations when it comes to these kinds of places. I expected DMV experience and it was better than that so I’m giving it four stars. I also came with everything I needed so that helped. However , I’ve showed up twice and it’s been the wrong hours. I’ll post a pic of the hours. Online it says it closes at 5.. not true!! It closes at 3 with a hugeeeeee lunch break. Kind of annoying but it is what it is and if you know then you won’t have to make extra trips like me. You come stand in line, drop off passport with the application from online. Make sure you have everything… Flight plans, hotel accommodations, etc. Then they give you a little ticket with a date to come back. You come back, pay the fee and pick it up and go. You have to find street parking. Or pay $5 to use their little lot.

Service fast and just let you know they close at 3pm not 5pm.

Don't need make appointments if you want to apply visa for traveling.

The passport photo required by Chinese consulate is smaller than US passport photo. You can use the auto photo machine in the consulate to take photo yourself. You pay $10 for 4 copies.

My wife and I both applied our visa on 09/13/2017. Not many applicants. The office is cool and clean. The visa officer is very friendly and knowledgeable. Our passport copies do not meet their std. The officer made another copy for free.

All you need for traveling: form v.2013, copy of passport and driver license, if you are international student like me, copy of I-20, booking hotel confirmation including your name, air tickets, and photo for visa.

Lots of negative reviews here... do your research first. Fill out your paperwork correctly and make sure your picture is how *they* want it to be. If you do everything how they want it, they'll give you the visa the first time around. Note not all the instructions are on the website, so research some of the passport agency websites even if you're not going to use their service, they'll give you more details than their website. I was afraid that my app might get rejected because I submitted a 2x2 passport photo (which is not the right size) but they approved it anyways. One trip to drop off the app and another to pickup the visa. Spent 10 min to drop off on a Monday and about 20 min to pickup on a Thursday. FYI I included a short description of where I work and my job description I found on a passport agency website. Apparently the Houston agency requires this.
