I am very impressed with efficiency and caring attitude of Consulate of Russian Federation in Houston. They gave me a step-by-step guidance and walked me through my particular situation. I felt that the consulate officials do a thorough job explaining the process, informing one about the paperwork requirement, and verifying information carefully in order to avoid any future obstacles for the applicant.
Update 11/1: Came without appointment to pick up my passport (after checking online on its status). Was seen immediately, and was out of there in 10 minutes max. Everybody was friendly and efficient.
I needed my passport renewed, so emailed them, as directed on the website, received a back call in the same day with appointment options. Upon arrival,there was a 12min wait time in seeing me. The lady apologized and explained the delay. This is far better than most appointments in Houston where nobody respects your time! The lady at the kiosk was exteremely efficient, professional, and friendly in handling my case. Another man nextdoor was equally helpful to other customers. Very impartial and down to earth, going out of their way processing requests in the best way possible- no scolding, no red tape, no wasted time, no attitude. Quite refreshing I must say, and unexpected, based on my history of interactions with my countrymen. I knocked down one star for their website (too wordy, broken links, out of date), no response to my general inquiry email months ago, a lack of phone response (why advertise the numbers if no one picks up the phone?) and generally dated and soviet-looking office. But superb customer service, in my view, outbeat all the negatives.
Waiting more than hour since scheduled appointment time. Apparently appointment time is irrelevant. Very disappointed

Worst experience ever. I've been trying to reach them via phone and email for 3 days to make an appointment but everything was to no avail. They simply do not answer.
In my experience, the best form of communication with them is via email. They answer email within minutes or few hours. They called me several times to give update on my case and to schedule an appointment. They try their best to schedule an appointment on a date most convenient to the applicant, giving a wide window of several weeks or months to choose from for an in-person interview. Due to health reasons, I could not go to Houston to pick up my documents at the end of the process. One can send a mail delivery request and a prepaid envelope. My document was sent through registered certified mail in a timely manner. Our whole family found this option very helpful. Overall, I had very positive experience dealing with professional warm people, not just officials. Come prepared: read the website, send email if clarification is necessary, or if you have questions, and follow all the steps. You should find fast and courteous service.
