Last Sunday was my first time going to This is It. I gave it four stars because when placing my order to go with the three ladies they were not friendly at all instead they were very rude. Especially the young lady who packaged my order to go. The young man at the cash register was very nice clearly the opposite of the three ladies. The food was excellent but they are clearly lacking customer service. It is not very welcoming.
My mom and I ate here last Sunday, I believe I arrived just in time to beat a crowd. My food was great! I had the catfish with green beans, macaroni and cheese, and mashed potatoes. My mom had the pepper steak with okra gumbo (okra, tomatoes, onions...), black eyed peas, and greens. Her food tasted ok, it was so much piled on the plate she said all the flavors had started to blend together. Also, her lemonade tasted like pure sugar, even when she added 4 additional slices of lemon to her cup. The banana pudding we shared was disappointing only because we're used to it being made from scratch, and there's was definitely not. Great service the entire time we were there, so we'll be back.
Great food and you get plenty of food on your plate. They have pretty good seating. And, they are located near Texas Southern University and the University of Houston main campus. I would highly recommend this place for some good down home soul food.
I am not the type of person who just gives out five star reviews for the sake of it. When I say something is good I mean it. As a black man, I know good soul food when I see it, and this place is by far the best soul food restaurant in town... and h town sure has a lot of them.
Visited for the first in quite some time the last weekend in Oct! My 3/5 is assuming that I came on an off day. The food was salty (I had the white meat chicken, cabbage and mac and cheese) and a little cold. I was disappointed in that; however, Full disclosure: I did eat it all, but my mama raised me not to waste food! The staff wasn't super welcoming, but it wasn't a big deal. The guy that bussed the tables was very pleasant and friendly! I am still willing to come back since I now live in the area to try again for a better experience.
