I use this gym, the staff are great, plenty of equipment and good standards of cleanliness. However, lately some of the newer clientele are concerning me. I often train late a night due to shift patterns etc, last week I was dead lifting when a tubby, bald fella wearing what can only be described as elevator boots and an awful smelling T shirt waddled up to me and asked 'how long you gonna be IDIOT?' with an aggressive and strangely nasal tone to his voice. I told him I'd finish when I felt like it and I swear his response was to hold out a (shaved?) arm and state "you need to back the f**k down" while his other hand fumbled spasmodically in the elastic of his nylon shorts. At this point a trans gender person with bright green hair and size 10 feet screamed "yeah baby, show him how we roll in Texas!" I looked this fat, bald lunatic straight in the eyes and told him to go ahead and lets see where it goes, at which point he started weeping about his father who never loved him (hit him with a steel pipe?) and walked away making strange twirling motions with his fingers. Then guess what? The trans person came right over to me and offered me a speed-ball and 30 minutes of fun for $8.00, just like that! Well I can tell y'all I was so mad I went straight over to the bench and hit a 500lb REVERSE grip bench press for reps. So, despite the oddballs here, its a great place to really make gains and hit a PB. Non negotiable.
I asked a nice girl who they were and she told me that the two are special friends of a manager called Big Jane or Big June. The staff would be glad to get rid of them asap but they are impeachable for the time being, thanks to Big Jessie.
This is a great gym. It's not fancy. It doesn't have a daycare. But it is staffed by amazing people and has lots of different weights and machines and other fitness tools that greet the job done.
That said, they do attract some unsavory characters. There is a strange couple, one man who wears the same clothes daily and a woman who has blue hair, that insists on filming constantly. It’s incredibly annoying and inconsiderate but they obviously have no manners or respect.
My trainer, Aldric, is awesome! I may not always 1 want to do what he's telling me but he is us helping me see some fabulous results. With his help I've lost more than 15 pounds with more to come!
Gladly finding a new place to lift!
This gym is sufficient for lifters of all goals.
Beware
Last time I went there I couldn't believe what I just saw: a very weird couple filming each other all the time (and other customers as well). She used to look more like a transvestite and her blue hair was just as weird as the short sized, chunky man. He displayed a distinct social awkwardness, chuckling all the time while breathing heavy. He suffered from invisible lat syndrome as well as a severe skin condition, leaving dandruff all over the place.
Went here for a quick drop in and place had quite a few machines, but when i went to the barbell a handsome blue haired woman was filming a larger bald man doing curls with 5 pound weights on each side. I wasn't too happy that they allowed people to film there when i just want a relaxing workout. I think Management shouldn't allow people to film their workouts while others are around.
Since there are plenty of alternatives, I terminated my contract with Houston Gym.
