So when my wife said she was going to pick up a cake and it was going to be $45-$50 at Dacapo's, I was skeptical... Could a cake from Dacapo's be THAT much better? Could it be $10-$15 dollars better than a mediocre bakery, or even $20-$30 better than a bad bakery or the grocery store cake? AAAAAANNNNNNNNNDD - it's not. It's not that good. Not all cake is created equal...We've all had cake that makes you wish you could eat cake for breakfast, lunch and dinner, right? Well, this isn't THAT cake. This one was the very-average-take-it-or-leave-it-not-that-impressed German chocolate. It had the right texture and it had the right look, but it definitely didn't have the right taste...it was just okay. So instead of a cake where you're like "Damn - that is some incredible cake,"...you get a very average cake. Meh. $50 worth of average cake. I'm no baker, so I don't know what it needs to make it better. But I wouldn't recommend this cake. I've had better cake at the Eastside Farmer's Market...and it doesn't cost $50 bucks.
It's tiny cafe, but very cute. They make a great chicken salad sandwich and I love the $1.50 "ugly" cake tops. I also highly recommend their bakery for whole cakes. The prices are very reasonable and the cakes are beautiful, delicious, and taste homemade.
Order at the counter and they'll bring your food to you. This is a small, cozy space, but it doesn't really fill up. A lot of people get their lunches to go.
This is a great little lunch spot for good sandwiches and great desserts. I like that they have a variety of side options, like the carrot souffle, and that you can get a good coffee or dessert to go.
