Great pastries and desserts! Really good baristas that make proper espressos. Service is good not great, sometimes they are not the friendliest. Always packed so the line might be long at times and parking is small. Overall the food and coffee makes up for any negatives.
Originally just a (very fine) bakery and coffee bar serving drinks, breads, and pastries, Common Bond has expanded their offerings to an extensive menu, rotating from breakfast to lunch to dinner. Moderately high-priced (for counter service) food is nonetheless tasty, high-quality, and nicely presented. Menu leans towards French, but maintains a foot in Nouveau American. Count on a long line during weekend brunch.
Positives: Beet , orange and goat cheese salad, best in Houston! The pastry’s ? I am not aware of any that are better. I don’t think there are because of the tender dough, perfect amount of butter and sweetness and flavor . Will make it a regular weekly stop for light meal and goodies for my kitchen counter.
Only one negative experienced on first visit- the chairs are hard to sit on- hard and little.
After moving into a new place not far from here I have been on a quest for the perfect most beautiful latte. I've passed by this place several times and finally had time to stop. Located in Montrose, this quaint cafe and bakery offers a delicious gourmet spin on "common" breakfast foods, yet very reasonably priced. This morning I opted for the Lavender Latte and the soft scramble breakfast. Let me tell you they did not disappoint and I will be back!
I have yet to have a pastry here that I don't like. The cortado, despite using Boomtown coffee (which I really like) did not turn out that well unfortunately. It would have paired very well with the different pastries. It lacked any presentation, and the ratio of milk to coffee wasn't very good, making the drink a bit bland. The coffee itself also seemed a bit too dark somehow. My friend got the lavender latte with almond milk, but those two flavors were too strong and totally masked any coffee taste so I would go with regular milk. Overall, I haven't been to another pastry shop in Houston that I like more than this place, but I wouldn't come just for coffee. They also have a lot of different food items on the menu, which I have yet to have but they always look delicious.
