I am never one to speak harshly of any, however allow this information to warn you in your endeavours in searching for a school of study.
Some good professors but majority are biased. There is lots of politics for getting on-campus jobs and even positions like TA or RA are not based on merit. Small campus and very less facilities compared to the education fees they take. They cut down on facilities and keep increasing on fees. Very bad management.
In all brutal honesty if I could rate this University any lower then one star I would. Not only have I had a scenario in which the advisors office "lost" my appointment nearly six times over, I continue to have difficulty of great measure when setting academic appointments with the advising office. I have come to the honest and cold conclusion that I am absolutely nothing more to this university then money. That is the sum of my efforts at this University. There is an illusion that the staff here "care" for the success of their students. However, I have been intentionally over looked and wrongfully mistreated by office staff of many different offices at this University. Including advising(ignoring and not keeping scedualed appointments), student services (money injustice), enrollment (they lost enrollment form) and many others.
I love this campus of University of Houston. It has a large park type area to walk around in or study. There's always people walking around or riding bikes. The library is a marvelous place to get away from the traffic of people and relax from studying or study. There's almost always events going on that make you interact with the college a little. Parking isn't free and without a visitors pass you will get a ticket. You will also get a ticket for going over 30 MPH so watch your speed.
This institution gave me my life back. I have learned so much over the course of my undergrad degree that I feel like a much smarter, more competent person.
They are not financial aid friendly. Made so many mistakes on mine that I now have a balance of 1800 after paying 1k out of pocket. I was supposed to get awarded but they didn't process it. Made me fill out an appeal, get all kinds of documents, wait 2 weeks only to apologize and say I never needed one. Couldn't afford everything so ended up dropping. All my effort was useless. Countless trips to the financial aid office and nobody knows what happened.
Please do not send your children here thinking the staff of this university will guide or direct your children.
I am sorry to say that the people working in the offices of the advisors and many other offices, are the most clueless and unprofessional workers I have encountered in my adult and professional life. This school and staff are not at all and in any way informed on the school's own information.
